LOCKER USAGE POLICY

policies and procedures

The School of Law, through the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), provides lockers as a convenience to enrolled students to safely store personal belongings, academic materials, and law school-related items while on campus. This policy outlines the assignment, use, and maintenance of student lockers.

Administration

Lockers are managed and assigned by the Office of Student Affairs (OSA). Locker use is a privilege extended to students for the duration of their enrollment at the Law School and must be used in accordance with this policy.

Assignment and Duration

  • Each enrolled student may be assigned one locker for their exclusive use throughout their enrollment.

  • Locker assignments will be made during or shortly after Orientation. Students will retain their assigned locker unless they formally request a reassignment or withdraw from the institution.

  • Lockers are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Students requiring accessible or specialized locker accommodations should contact UDC Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) at arc@udc.edu.

Acceptable Use

Lockers are to be used for:

  • Storage of personal items, textbooks, laptops, law school materials, and weather-appropriate clothing.

  • Temporary storage during the academic day or evening while the student is on campus.

Prohibited uses include but are not limited to:

  • Storage of perishable food items beyond 24 hours.

  • Storage of illegal, hazardous, flammable, or prohibited items.

  • Use of the locker for commercial or non-academic purposes.

Condition and Care

  • Students should remove all perishable items such food, sodas, coffee, snacks, personal item, etc. from their lockers at the end of that semester’s exam period.

  • Students are responsible for keeping their locker clean and free of damage.

  • Lockers are subject to routine inspection by Facilities or OSA for maintenance and safety purposes. Advance notice will be given unless there is an immediate concern.

  • Students may not place stickers, writing, or adhesive items on the exterior or interior of lockers.

  • If a locker requires cleaning or repair beyond normal wear and tear, a cleaning or damage fee may be assessed.

Keys and Locks

  • Students will receive a locker key or combination at the time of assignment.

  • Lost keys must be reported immediately to the OSA. A replacement fee may apply.

  • Students are not permitted to add personal locks without prior approval.

Vacating Lockers

  • Graduating students and those withdrawing or taking a leave of absence must vacate their lockers by the last day of final exams or as otherwise instructed.

  • Unclaimed items left in lockers after the deadline will be discarded or donated.

  • Students are encouraged to notify the OSA if they are vacating their locker early.

Liability Disclaimer

The School of Law is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items stored in lockers. Students are advised to avoid storing valuables and are encouraged to secure their locker at all times.
